International Neurosurgery Partnerships
The article discusses the establishment of an international neurosurgical partnership between Mass General Brigham (MGB) and the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) in The Gambia. It highlights the challenges faced by low-income countries in providing specialized neurosurgical care, particularly for skull base tumors like pituitary adenomas, and details the initial cases performed under this collaboration. The study also examines the cost-effectiveness of performing pituitary surgery locally compared to referring patients abroad, emphasizing the long-term benefits of building neurosurgical capacity in The Gambia. But what impact will this partnership have on the future of neurosurgical training and accessibility in the region?

The Folding Technique
Turkish neurosurgeons at Ankara University's Faculty of Medicine have developed a "Folding Technique in Duraplasty" to prevent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leakage, a common complication after brain surgery. Applied in over 2,500 open brain surgeries, this method has effectively eliminated CSF leaks without requiring additional materials or advanced technology. The technique gained international recognition after being featured in the February issue of Neurosurgical Focus, the official journal of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons.
Given its simplicity and effectiveness, do you think this technique represents a significant advancement in neurosurgical procedures?
